Triumph TR7 Wiper Blades length

Dave you need the wipers with built in pins, the ones with separate pins are not as good.

TR7 Wiper Blades with Pin??

Postby bonnietiler » 30 May 2016 09:44

I'm looking for a set of wiper blades with the pin mounted rather than with an adaptor...am I wasting my time or is the an Audi or something that uses a wiper that I could utilise?
Cheers

I've replaced the rubber, using the metal parts from the old wiper.

Steve,

Do the blades with pins have the correct size pins? The last set I purchased from another supplier had the newer narrower pins which fell out.

Currently like Dutch Triumph I am now using original wipers with new inserts

Cheers

Howard

The easy thing to do, is tap the hole with a 5mm tap where the pins go, No need to drill right size hole already. Bend the tag away which use to hold the old pins in place, one is a blind hole so don't over tap 10mm is plenty. Screw in some 5mm s/s threaded bar about 40mm long in the blind hole. The other open hole screw in a 5mm pan head set bolt, from behind Then get some s/s nuts nyloc and s/s washers. Then the best bit go down to your local stockist and buy some lovely Bosh wiper blades, I prefer 16" but some people like longer ones. In the middle you will find a 5mm hole. First place a washer on stud and then wiper then another washer , then nut . Tighten gently until resistance is felt, but blades can still move freely. Cut studs down leaving two threads are showing after nut. Rarely you may have touch the wiper hole with a 5mm drill, but this has only happened to me twice. I think it was only the paint in the hole. Once done you can get blades any where. And they wont fall off. I touch mine up with black marker pens. And use a spacer inside the blades from a cut down black felt tip pen. Had mine on for donkey years. Never had a problem.

Now that looks like a darned good solution there Alan. I've always used some black electrical insulation tape around mine to ensure they never fly off but your solution sounds somewhat nicer to me.

I replaced the old arms and blades with the Trico replacement assemblies that are recommended, but I was never happy with them as they sat higher than the orginals and the rubber on them wore to quickly. Last year I sourced some different Trico things that were the combined blade and arm assembly in the modern style a bit like those on the Lotus in the pictures here. I was able to remove the pins from the old arms and just pop them in the new assemblies. I am due to pick my car up tonight (last of the repairs following the theft has been completed). I will get some photos of how it looks - some might not like the look of the modern arm/blades on the car. I can also try and dig out the part numbers of what I used. From memory the key to this was having bought the recommended Trico assemblies that I hated to start with, as these ones allowed the pins to be easily removed. If you haven't already done that, then this option is probably irrelevant to you.
Edit- Hopefully the pic is up now
