Thanks for the great picture. One question on my 1976 the connectors are from the side (horizontal). Your's appear vertical. It appears yours are red on the first connector and red/white on the second?

It would seem your rheostat is slightly different. The inside connectors are not used. It shouldn't matter which way the wires go as the switch just puts a variable resistance in series in the circuit. If you put a volt/ohmmeter on these two connectors and turn the knob you will see the resistance change. Any resistance in the circuit will cause the bulbs to be less bright. When I had my gauge cluster out I cleaned all contacts to take any resistance out of the circuits. While they will never be as bright as today's dashes they should be bright enough. At least they are out here in the country on the Island (Vancouver). Might not be in downtown Miami.
