Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

fuse box

Postby oliviertr7 » 05 Apr 2018 19:58

Hello.
I think the subject has already been treated, but I have not found.
I only have problems with my fuse box, a sudden the current passes, a blow nothing,  a blow the fuse grills just by touching the wires.
have you changed your fuse box and if so what?
sorry Google translation. :D

it's the 12fuses

Never had a problem with my fuse box but there are generic ones out the that use current/modern fuse designs out there. You just have to get one with enough circuits not forgetting extra if you plan on doing some extra electrical additions to the car.

thank you spyder, I found a solution, the great evils great remedies, I dipped in hydrochloric acid two minutes, then in soapy water to stabilize,  Finally 80 ° heat gun drying and finally spray contact w40, suddenly it is like new with contactors (nickel chromium) and apparently no problem on this side.

I've had a number of cars with cartridge type fuses like the 7. They've all played up at some time. A quick buff of the metal contacts with a scotchbrite pad to remove the oxidation / tarnish has restored electric windows, pop up headlight motors etc.

Some years ago I had electrical problems on my 8 and here in SA found an electrician who had been an apprentice at Lucas's. Now we all know about having the correct sized (Length)glass cylinder fuses but I now learn't something else. My Lucas man condemned my fuses as useless Chinese & Japanese junk that caused dry connections. This was because the actual fuse wire was dry soldered internally ( identified by smooth end caps) and could become partially disconnected. The correct fuses to use should have the wires protruding through the end caps and then soldered on top of the end cap.

You just remedied the most common cause for electrical failures on these cars, corrosion of contact surfaces
As long as all contact areas are kept relatively clean these cars are pretty reliable from an electrical point of view
