TR7 Brakes - Spring - Shoe Pull Off - Single Coil - LH Upper

Postby UKPhilTR7 » 04 Mar 2018 05:52

I have taken the rear brake shoes where the brake cylinder leaked. Needless to say they are very dirty and everything needs a good clean. I have the three springs, as expected. I have two that are connected to both of the springs, one at the top and one at the bottom.

I have the third (Spring - Shoe Pull Off - Single Coil) connected to the one shoe and the 'Operating Lever - Handbrake - LH - 5 Speed and Late Auto' as below.

I thought that the three springs were connected to the shoes at top, middle and bottom. However, if I use the existing set-up it is not. Is this correct below:

Phil,
A couple of links below: 1) to a restoration blog and 2) to a discussion on the triumph experience forum which includes a useful pdf diagram of the various spring and part locations (you will need to join/log in to the triumph experience forum site to view all photographs/diagrams in the discussion).

Essentially two pull-off springs - one across top, one across the bottom and the 3rd spring which is fitted to the handbrake self adjuster mechanism, which is then fitted between the shoes as a sub-assembly.

Oh yes I saw the iRestore site when looking at brake pics, didn't quite show me what I needed though.

So from your last section, the picture that I have posted showing the spring connected tot he handbrake leaver is correct.

Yes, the hook of this spring is just visible in the picture below (same hole (LH side) as red spring).
And notice that the top spring should be fitted to the back of the shoes (so the back plate side).
