thanks for all your help, if I replace the speedo how do I set the mileage to match the speedo I am replacing?

Usually you don't.

There is a way I'm told, but the exact technique is a rather closely guarded secret among the car
fraud people and auto sales men... Me, I've always just started over again at the ~zero mileage the
new one have. (Documented the swap - and went on with life...)
