FASD - Let me guess

Postby jclay (RIP 2018) » 15 Apr 2008 18:21

Working on the "Project TEX" car, 79 year, and it is fitted with the FASD. Car has been sitting for 13 years! (PO, "It was running when I parked it!")

So . . .

When manufactured, where the carbs already on the manifold before installing the manifold on the engine?

Now I know why so many old 7s are found with the air cleaner removed and everything else left where it was!

There is a link to a site that tells how to dismantle the fasd, and how to clean it. A lot of times that will cure the problem. I have lost the link but will try to find it, meanwhile maybe someone else knows the site I am talking about. Actually, if you do a search you might be able to locate it on your own on this forum. Simply search for FASD.

I am not trying to repair the FASD, I am just trying to remove the carburetors. If the FASD comes off in the process, so be it.

I have better luck removing both carbs together, then separating them on the bench. An extra 5 - 10 minutes to bring the rear carb off with the front saves me a bunch of fiddling.

I kept the FASD device, but got rid of the waxstat and coolant tubes and converted it to operate manually, with a cable.
