Handbreak swith

Postby UKPhilTR7 » 20 Feb 2008 06:51

I am lookig at changing the setting of my handbreak switch so that it comes on a little sooner when the handbreak is lifted up. Now I really have to pull it up hard (4 clicks) to get the lights to come on on the dash. I want them to come on after two (ish) clicks. Can this be done by simply moving the switch or do I have to do something more?

If I remember right the switch is mounted on a bracket that can be formed to adjust the transfer point. I'm writing this from memory so I might be confusing it with the Spitfire setup.

on my 78 the switch cant be moved, the "pip" on the end of my switch was quite worn, you should be able to bend the switch slightly or in my case I added a blob of solder which has worked for the last 2 years.

Contacts on mine were dodgy. It a real physical origami job to get in there, I found.

I think I may have to go down the solder route as it does work, but needs a lot of pulling up to get the lights on. Will hopefully have a look at it this weekend and see what I can do, but it does not seem the easiest of jobs.

On mine it was pretty easy to do, has to remove the centre armrest and gearstick surround but the switch was only held on with one screw. think I may have had to removed the handbrake assembly from the floor (left the cable attached) to rotate the unit and reach the screw as the seat was in the way.
