Leaded or Unleaded?

Postby UKPhilTR7 » 19 Feb 2008 06:54

I have a 2LT standard TR7, 1980. I have been putting unleaded in her, which I thought was fine. However, a friend of mine said that I should really be putting LRP or an adertive in her, to make her run better. I really thought that the later TR7's were designed for unleaded. Can anyone help me with this one as every time I talk to my mate he is telling me this.

I highly doubt there was different valves and valve seats fitted to the aluminium cylinder heads that
went to the UK as compared to the valves and valve seats fitted to the aluminum heads intended
for America (who were set up for unleaded and catcon) - so there should be no issue whatsoever
with running it on unleaded fuel...

Odd just beat me to it! There's no difference between UK and US heads. You could use an Octane booster or Super Unleaded and re-advance the timing if you wanted to, but no point really.

Cheers for this guys,
So are you saying that I can carry on using the regular unleaded that I have been using for some time on her now, without andy benifits to putting LRP in her?

Unleaded is definately OK, Phil.

I must admit I use the higher octane "premium" unleaded in my 2ltr car as it does seem to run a bit better, but the point is that whether you use regular or premium unleaded, it is still unleaded.

Completely agree with the above, no diffence between US and rest-of-the-world valves and valve seats.
I'm using unleaded in my TR7's for more then 10 years now without a problem. Always fill up with RON 98 or RON 100 octane fuel. The highert the better they run [:)]
