Front wing to Front panel joint

Hello,

When joining the front wing to the front headlight panel, what do you put between the joint ?
I bolted mine up without anything, but when I paint it, it will look unfinished!

What have you all used for this job ?

when mine was done the guy told me he had done some sort of seam weld
but there is a flexible filler specialy for jobs like this i was told

Yes,when i did the same on my7 auto,i used a white seam sealer,can't
remember the make,has to be flexible and water proof.Best to weld
seam flush and then chase out groove ifyou want it to look original.
I like a seamless finish tho' which stops water penetrating the join.

If you are referring to the joint between the headlight panel and the fender, You should have the guy run a false seam on the joint(meaning using flexible filler) The idea is not to make it smooth, but a nice recessed line where they join.

Looks like I need to find out some flexible filler then, but a seamless joint would (in my opinion) look better, I dont fancy welding the joint, I'd make a right mess, I'll have to look into it a bit more.

In the same vein,I have a replacement wing/fender for my 75 that I would like to have re-attached. I won't be doing this myself,but my question is,when I removed the wing from the donor car,it involved a bit of weird cutting (it was cut from about 1/2 way into the wheelwell around the curve of the wheelwell,if that makes sense) down to the bottom of the wing. I noticed there were some sort of support braces or arches within...how would those get re-welded once on the car? It doesn't look like there should be a way to access that area once the wing is put into position,yet there must have been a procedure to do this (cause they were a pain in the butt to cut off!) I want to steer the guy putting it on for me in the right direction, and as most people haven't seen these,or had much experience working on them in that manner,was wondering if there were any tips or tricks to that? Thanks in advance!

I had my body shop guy braze the joints here, but also on the rear deck to rear wing. (They also did all the other visible panel joints as well to give that Smoooth all over look) Then they were all lead loaded, skimmed with filler, filler primer and paint (water based) and lacquer

So far, everything is fine, but the rear deck ones cracked the paint. I guess this joint is more stressed than the front wings.

1980 DHC TR7-V8 (was an 8V, then a Sprint)
Back on the road after 3 years restoring...

I haven't had mine long and it was painted before I got it, 1980 DHC, but it is cracked front and rear. I thought maybe that was the way they were supposed to be![:)]

Best thing to use is some flexible seamsealer.Fills the gap and allows for changes in tempreture.this will stop the paint from cracking.
