Fuel Pump filter

Fuel Pump filter

In the service instructions it says to remove the screw on the fuel pump cap and clean the filter. Could anyone tell me if there is an easy way of getting to the screw to get the top off, as it is not very accessible. Thank you Simon.

Remove the pump if you can't get a stubby sized screwdriver in there.

Simon, I have a couple of funy screw drivers, which are perfect for
these jobs.

They are a 6" length of screw driver size steel bent up at 90degrees
at one end, & bent down at the other. One end has a plain screw
driver head , & the other has a phillips head driver.

So you have a thing like a flat Z, with 2 screw drivers on it. The
screw driver bit is about 1.5" long, & gets in there no trouble.
They are available, in parts shops here, now, so you should be able
to get them, over there. If not, just ben an existing screw driver.

If you have an inline filter, before the pump, its probably
unnecessary, to clean that filter. My pump filter has never had any
dirt in it, since I installed a filter inline before it.

<font color="green">Interesting that the other guys are suggesting short screwdrivers, I went out and bought a looooong one. it's long enough that you can get the end in the screw while the handle still stays clear of the other bits and pieces that are in the way. Buy one with magnetic end and you don't drop the screw when it is undone either. All that is hard then is getting your hand down to extract the filter - and putting it all back of course.

Don't forget there will be a small loss of petrol when you take the top off so only do this job when the engine is cold.</font id="green">

We used to magnetize our screw drivers by wrapping some insulated wire around the shaft about ten times or so, put a strip of metal part of cigarette paper in line to act as a fuse. The circuit is completes with a line cord (or lamp cord), when you plug it into the wall the cigarette paper goes poufft and your screw driver is magnetized.
