Never heard of one, Stephen.

I think that some later SUs fitted to the likes of the SD1 did have auto chokes but I don't know if they can be made to fit the SUs on a 7.

Why do you want to change it? Most people try to convert FROM auto chokes to a manual system.

Stephen, if you do a search for F.A.S.D, or perhaps FASD, you should
find quite a few threads here. I think it stands for fully automatic
starting device.

Its the auto choke fitted to US TR7s. I think it was also fitted to
similar vintage Jags. I believe they were used to meet US pollution
requirements.

From the trouble most people have with them, I think you're best
avoiding them.

Most enthusiasts in the USA would be thrilled to convert to a manual choke. The FASB unit functions well enough for the car to start and for it to meet our emissions standards from the late 1970's, but when it gums up it holds the idle high at all speeds.

My two Land Rovers both have manual chokes and I prefer them.

The US carb setups, with twin Strombergs instead of SU's, have the automatic choke only. You'd need to swap out a lot of stuff to make that conversion possible.

Rocky, I too think that would be the best thing to do. I remember last year, I had the same idea, so I contacted Rebsport and Rob told me to keep well away from the automatic ones and that if they get any TR's with them in, they change them back to the manual ones.

So with that in mind, I took it that you can get a conversion kit, but the general feeling was that they are not liked and from the replies here I think that is confirmed. I must admit, that now I do like being able to have the control pver it, rather than the new ones where you can not do anything.[:D]
