Bracket Finish Questions....

Postby Rblackadar » 16 Jan 2008 01:03

Was wondering if you folks know the original finish for the steel lifting eye positioned at the front of the block (near the timing cover) and the steel alternator slide bracket. I was curious to see if they were yellow cad as I got the Golden CAD kit from Eastwood. Which by the way looks pretty good for for spray paint.

The lifting eye on my car definately looks like it's cad, but I'm pretty sure the alt slide bracket was just plain metal. (mine were painted silver about 10 years back [B)])
Guess I'll have to look into getting a can of that Eastwood rattle can paint for the day I decide to pull my engine and do everything right .....

Ron.

If I remember right the lifting eye was cad although mine is all worn off with my polishing. The alt brackets are aluminum I think, upper is welded with no trace of rust, the bottom was worn oval were the bolt goes through so I had a steel bush pressed in. The bracket seemed light and soft and lack of surface rust made me think aluminum/aluminum alloy.

The magnet I have stuck to both pieces, so I assumed steel.

Top alternator bracket magnet sticks to, bottom bracket it doesn't. Does aluminum alloy attract magnet? There is/was very little rust on car anyway but I would have expected some on the upper braket what with the welding on it etc.
