This was something I had remade last year as I was not happy with the dried hard, crusty foam on my own filler caps. Also the gasket on the top of the cap needed replacing to make sure there is a good seal (MoT failure in the UK if it is inadequate). PM me if interested - if ordering alloy wheel centres by post then these could be enclosed with no additional postage cost.

I think we need to make it clear that these components are for the later type/small filler cap and not the pre-1978 model large filler cap.

The sponge and rubber fitted perfectly and it was a really nice job to do - start off with an old fuel cap and end up with one looking like new!

My only tip is to watch out for flying parts when you release the pin to disassemble the cap.

Temporarily i have bought a locking cap frpm steve at s&s but i would like to go back original.

How does the cap vent?? I found mine wasnt venting resulting in fuel starvation.

I have both of these (venting and none venting). The venting type (UK) does so by holes in the cap mechanism (if I remember right, I have pictures of both to show the difference but can't show them at the moment). The non venting (N/A) is part of the sealed N/A system to prevent gas fumes entering the atmosphere. It vents through the emissions/fuel separator system which is why people who remove emissions can develop vacuum lock if not done correctly.
