Hi Mark,
Should work straight of the shelf, unlike the old dynamos that sometimes need to be polarised for those old gits amongst us !
The three wires on your alternator are two output, large connectors and the smaller is from the charge / ignition light on your dash, this supplies the battery voltage to kick things into life. If your bulb blows for charging / ignition blows then your alternator will not charge.
