so it can't be that, so I think I must have had a GREY moment, or
should that be a silly old fart moment?
My local Triumph bloke has a great service. When you need shims, to
adjust your valve clearance, he does an exchange service. He sends
you what you need, you return the ones you take out, & pay a small
service fee.
I checked mine recently, & found 3 had closed a couple of thou each,
& one had opened a thou.
I pulled out the sheet showing the first time I adjusted the
clearances, when I restored the car, & the readjustment a few
hundred Km later. It shows which size shims are in each cam
follower, & I figured out the shims required, to correct those which
were out, & ordered same.
When the shims arrived, & I went to fit them, I found 3 followers
had a different size shim fitted, to what I had listed. This is most
annoying, mostly as I have no record, & don't remember having done
the things since those first 2 times.
The car is sitting in the shed, with the cam out, waiting for some
more shims. Once I've done them, I'd best go do a lot of driving in
the thing, just in case I forget I own it & stop driving it.
