Has anyone installed Toyota MR2 seats in their TR7 or 8? I saw mention of doing so in "How to Improve" Do they fit easily? What modifications if any?

Larry, which genertion of MR2 are you talking about (there are 3 of them)?

Personally, I love the 02 Toyota Celica GT leather seats that I put in my TR7!

Hi,
Intresting question, how about MGF seats? they are comfotable,available in different materials,provision for seat belt buckle to be mounted to the seat and seam to be turning up in breakers over here.From what i can remenber the floor mounting is very similar set up to 'ours'.Anyone out there done this conversion???

Hi Jclay, love the wooden affect i saw it once on a Tr7, when the facia dials where done in wooden effect which i thought looked great, any ideas where you can get them from? i thought maybe they came from the states but couldnt be sure, also does anyone know which other car seats would fit directly on a TR7, to replace the standard check ones?

Steve, I don't think any seats fit directly into the 7 apart from the originals. Having said that quite a few different seats can be fitted with some fairly modest work to the seat subframes or to the floor mounting points.

The Celica seats can be fitted as has been said above. I have seen BMW Z3 seats fitted as well - you have to remove the BMW subframes or the seat is too tall in the car. Don't know about MGF, but as long as the seat will physically fit into the space I don't see why it could not be done.

Thanks, Tony, the reason i say is that my TR7 1980. has the blue check style seats which on the whole are fine, but i have to say my car is in Inca yellow convertible, and the not only are the early cloth black seats more comfie but suit better, so i think i'll just keep me eye out for some on ebay from time to time they do come up.

Hi Larry ,
I fitted mk1 MR2 seats in my fhc , you have to remove the mounting brackets as these just line up with anything and make up some plates to fix them to the floor ,secondly you will have to mount the seat belt anchor points to the the sides of the seats then fit the fixed anchor point to the floor .
This was not the easiest of jobs i have tackled on PMT205R but they are very comfortable plus you have the lumber , side restraint adjustment and tilt .

The great thing about these,is that they fit perfectly,good ol' BL parts rationalization!
The 'brake' cover will need a little reaming out to fit.

The 'fake' wood is a kit supplied by,youguessed it,ROBSPORT,'nuff said! Their part no. DDW039.
In this kit you get everything except the glove box strips,gear lever base and that strip where the
lighting rheostat,cigarrette lighter and air con switch(if you have this) are sited.
I managed to get these made by the company that manufactures the kit. All they needed were the

My thinking is to get seats from a 91-94 MR2 and then recover them in tan leather with a center panel of maroon/burgundy. A lot will depend on what the color of samples I get. As you all probably know, the MR2 seats have the female seatbelt receptacle fasten to the seat. Do I remover this and use the original TR8 one? or replace the entire seat belts with MR2 seat belts or perhaps will the stock seatbelt fit the MR2 receptacle?
