How much is my TR7 worth? pics inside...

I'm just curious. I live in england, and own a 1980 tr7 FHC in green, with gold decor and wheels, to make it look like the TR7 special edition I think. In reasonably good condition, there is not an alarming bit of rust to be found (no bigger than a 2-3mm in diameter). 89k miles, no chips or noticeable dings on exterior, no rust. Only spots are 1) tiny crack in left pop up cover of headlight 2) Some microscopic bubbling, barely noticeable on the boot lid.

Interior good, but not excellent, a bit faded here and there, but no rips in the seats, no cracks in dashboard or anywhere else. Carpets not too bad, but quite worn. Everything on the dashboard works, save maybe fuel gauge very tempermental but working when i last checked. All lights work. The lights even pop up.

Starts, runs and drives, but not too well. When engine gets warm, it suffers at the higher revs, and with more gas. Needs a new dizzy cap and a good service. Very new gearbox, pretty new petrol tank. New battery.

Bottom of car has all been treated. Stainless exhaust. Everything standard that I know of. Have I missed anything? Garage stored under a cover since 2001 until I purchased a few months ago. Since then, been under a new cover, and aired and run nearly every dry day. 12 months MOT. No tax. What would you pay for this? Thank you! Any questions?

Just like any stock on the stock market or any car in the Barrett Jackson auction it's only worth what some one is willing to pay for it. That being said it is really hard to price based only on pictures and description. Most cars are bought for $2,500 to $3,500 (excepting extra good deals, abandoned projects and junkers) then spend another 4 plus grand upgrading/restoring them. It is really hard to get your money out of completed car but I feel there is more headroom for the price to go up than the other TR's or Stags. We buy'em, fix'em, restore'em cause we like'em not because they're a start on our retirement plan.

i think you summed that up very well

as you say by description alone you are probably talking around the 1,500 mark IMHO

[8 whole cylinders worth of punch to ram the world through the windshield and out the rear view mirror. Car & Driver]

Thanks! I know what you are saying, I'm just wondering if it's worth me selling it now because I need a garage, and it dosn't look like I'm going to have one next year either, and I figured springtime would be the best time to sell someone a car like this. [8D]

So you reckon I'd get £1500 for her? I'm sorry what does IMHO mean? [8)]

Keep and enjoy - although it is a nice looking cars the sad fact is that fixed heads don't fetch as much as drop heads. Check ebay sales for a guide to prices - but many on there don't sell at all. I suspect with a new MOT that £1000 would be realistic.

Excuse me if this sounds politically incorrect - but what's unique with a FHC TR7?

[They were 13 to the dozen just a few years ago
and still fill most of that dozen with the bucket load that still remain... IMHO]

My thought as to the uniqueness of a FHC is this: when you look at a Midget,Spitfire,TR-whatever,aren't they always DHC's? So to get a cool,British car in FHC guise seems a bit unique to me,anyway.[:)]
I solved the problem by getting one of each!

Hi Orophin,

Didnt you pay £850 for her only a few weeks ago? I remember talk of grand plans for uprating and upgrading this car, would be a shame to just sell now wouldnt it?

You'll have great fun in her if you keep but its definately a car for the enthusiast, your not going to ever make any money out of them, we all drive them out of love not investment.

Mine lives outside as well and although not ideal, with plenty of car and a good care cover its quite ok.

I think that because the DHC's are undoubedly more popular than the FHC's, the FHC's are becoming more rare and "unique" by the day!

Then my dad and I own two wedges that are 'unique' - in different ways...
His wedge has got a roof - and a V8.
My wedge has got no roof but still a V8.

Both probably stands out in the crowd of Corvettes, GTOs, SS Chevelles, Mustangs
and unpronunciable Italian thoroughbreds living around here... [8D]

Lol, well a few things have made me think about selling it, I found scratches on the roof, many tiny ones in 2 areas which i had not seen before, I still don't know how they got there, but I think it was that the cover has been swishing over it alot because of resent high winds that maybe that could have done it. But hey. I'm very tempted to keep it now because i've just aired it and left her ticking over and shes sound now. I think I'll keep it. But, I just want to mod to make it a better car for me! [8D] They are unique my friend! How many do you see around? I've only seen one or two. Hardly any about, and can see me really falling for this car even more in the summer.
