TR7 BOOT JACK

Hi guys anyone no if there are still any about cos i havent seen any, the jack and tools that used to come with the TR7, there is a place for the Jack that would sit just above the spare wheel on the bracket positioned there, just wondered if anyone might know.

While you might find them on Ebay from time to time you could try the auto wreckers (breakers). Victoria has the jack and trunk (boot) tools etc. in their catalogue I assume Moss UK would as well.

Steve, I'd have a look at one of those jacks, before I bought one.

I have 2 jacks, which I believe were supplied with 7s in Oz. They do
fit the mounting bracket in the boot, [trunk], but there their
usefulness ends.
These, of course, may be different to those supplied elsewhere.

The ones I have are not much use, as the foot is very narrow. I
would not like to use one, without the other wheels securely chocked.
As this is unlikely to be the case, on the side of the road, I carry
a Aussie Ford Falcon jack, which is similar, but much more secure.

Steve, I have a stockish 2L FHC, & a 4.6L much modified
TR8, DHC, ex the USA, plus a parts car, FHC which had a
Sprint engine.

Very nicve too Hasbeen, mine is a 2.0 Litre DHC in Inca yellow, which was in 1980 the BL press car, 1 of only 2 originals that were origianlly finished in Inca yellow as im told Inca yellow wasny a production colour on the DHC,ive stopped worked on her now to save for Christmas but i'll start work on her again in springtime, im about 95% there with her.

Hi Steve,I still have mine,but I agree w/Hasbeen,they don't inspire confidence in me! I bought a hydraulic one,and love it. The one in the green car was still in the bag w/all it's info. But it looks rather underwhelming,if you ask me!

I totally agree with Hasbeen here. I recently had to change the wheel on the hard shoulder of a very busy motorway. I only had the original jack with me. I had only just got the car up in the air with two wheel nuts off when the bloody jack gave way following a light breeze from a van that went past. Fortunately neither the car or myself were damaged in this but the jack was thrown (with some force I might add) over the hedge and the roadside rescue called to complete the job. It taught me a very valuable lesson, originality has it's place but there is no replacement for personal or vehicular safety. I now carry a hydraulic jack plus two collapsible axle stands.

Hi guys, i take it these arent up to the job then! To be truthful i do have a strong 1 ton trolley jack for home garage use, and for the car i do have a good strong jack and axel stands that i use on my rover should i get stuck, but i take youre points on this they are quite flimsy and in my opinon not strong enogh for the job, to tell you the truth i wanted the original Jack and tools just for the orignal purposes for the car itself and not intending to evder use them, and just use my strong jack should i ever encounter any trouble.

Original tools came in a robin's egg blue plastic bag (at least mine did). Matches colour of oil filter cover and FI intake hose clamps. (See page 40 of "Original Triumph TR7 & TR8" by Bill Piggott.) I carry a length of 2x6 board for the base of the jack to provide a better base for it to sit on especially if it is on gravel usually found on the side of roads. I put a piece of 2x4 under the diagonally opposite wheel.

Hi Spyder, not sure what made me think of Black, im kicking myself as my last TR7 FHC had a bag for the tools and it was black although it prob was a replacement though, i know Rimmer Bros over her do the Jacks & tools etc, but with my 7 i want to try and get as much original where poss.

I have a spare jack and tool bag in blue location Crewe Cheshire if of any use to you. The only iterm missing is the l spare spanner.
