Triumph TR7 Front ride height

Hi All,

My 7 sits very high at the front with new front lower height but uprated springs and a swivel bearing from Robsports, I read somewhere that someone had machined the cone shaped Alloy spacer that the front shock thread goes through and the swivel/ steering bearing sits on. Has anyone had it done in the UK and could recommend a firm?

I had the cones machined many years ago, see this link:

Though I doubt that will lower the car enough.
Can you give the measurements from the top of the wheel arch to the heart of the axle?

I recently replaced a set of uprated slightly lowered front springs. Over many years, they lost more than 40mm in length.......

Are you able to post a photo?

I haven't changed the springs on the rear so that may level it off a little if I do.

According to the official workshop manual that measurement should be between 361mm and 347mm.
Exact dimensions depends on model year and fitted accessories.

Has the car been moved after the new springs were fitted?

Hi,

The photo's are attached (hopefully) as you can see its rather dormant after a cabin fire last Summer.

Oh no apparently they are too large at iphone 5 resolution.

It's not been driven but was wheeled in and out of the garage many times. the swivel wheel bearing would have added height as well.

Hi Mals1960,
I had the same issue with excessive front ride height when I fitted the Ford strut top bearings. I ended up removing them and replacing with the alternative bearing kit which is supplied by Rimmer Brothers and also I believe the Wedge Shop have them as well. This kit fits in place of the standard nylon thrust bush and washer and is no thicker, hence no increase in ride height.

I used a roller bearing kit which I think came from S&S (was some 14 years ago). It did not seem to materially raise the ride height. I also thought it did not seem to be doing much and when I stripped the struts to put new inserts in 6 years ago the grease was hard and they did not roll!

The Robsport roller bearings are quite thin, Ideally I'd like to replace the ally cone with something thinner.

Something wrong there if that is pictured sat on the ground, even my TR7 sits lower with the Rover Vitesse struts fitted :shock:
