Does anyone know if it is possible to get the actual date my 1980 TR7 DHC was manufactured from the vin no. ?

I know it was built at Canley and the vin no is 214170, but would it have been built on a particular day ?

I think the last Canley built car was 215080 which means, if there was a straight numerical progression, that there were another 910 cars built there after mine.

Christopher Kenneth Smith should be able to help more precisely but an estimate of August 1980 based on some of the TR8 VIN records I hold.

Hi, you should be able to get an exact date from the British Motor Museum. I got one for my TR7. See https://www.britishmotormuseum.co.uk/ar ... rtificates

This came up some time ago and from it I was able to a great deal of identification on my own car using the site below:

http://www.trdrivers.com/tr7___tr8_vin_numbers.htm

I was able to see that mine was Country: A = UK - from 1980-81, Solihull-built cars

OK, thanks for the info.

I could have found the build date using the British Motor Museum web research service at a cost of £6 but i decided to splash out and get the full certificate for £45 inc. postage. As I've owned the car for 36 years (it was less than a year old when I bought it), I guess it is going to be a keeper.

The car is currently undergoing a full engine - out, suspension off, interior out, body repair and repaint rebuild and I was wondering what do people normally do regarding first start up and testing prior to the mot test ? Obviously I can get it started on my driveway but it's going to need some shakedown mileage before the mot, but as it wouldn't legally be allowed on the road without an mot (unless actually taking it for the test) how do you get around this ?

I insured my DHC starting on a Sunday and booked her in for the MOT on Monday.
Used the Sunday for shakedown runs (avoiding traffic cameras) hoping the Police wouldn't stop me. They didn't
