Would the jack and tools when fastened to the bracket
on the rear wall of the boot / trunk normally be stored above or below the spare wheel cover board? supercass

When I bought my DHC back in 1986, the original jack and it's long handle were both kept in a large blue polythene sleeve in the boot. No room in the wheel well, so above the carpet. I'm just about to the wedge for a blast so will double check that.
The boots full of spare water, oil, garage cover sheet plus other stuff just in case of a breakdown (which hasn't happened for years). The rest of my tools are carried by the AA.

Having restored my '8 some 30 years ago, I was able to determine where the tools were positioned from a dealer. The jack is clipped in position at the front of the wheel well and the remaining tools in the blue plastic bag on top of the spare wheel, then there is a clear floor for luggage. One thing I changed was to turn the spare wheel over and fill the wheel rim with ready use spares in case of a problem- fan belts, rotor arm, oil and water. Keeps things tidy.

When I bought mine (in 2006) everything was as REX said. It was owned by a lady that (I think) never looked below the vinyl liner.
