Air conditioning questions

I have air-conditioning in my TR7 drop top. In the west coast of Scotland it's not needed.
I have steam coming through the heating vents. Short term I'll bypass the matrix and cross the pipes. But I'd like a permanent solution which gives me heat as its more important here.
I know i could remove the whole thing but that's a hassle
If i got the heater matrix recored. Would that solve the problems and give me heat. I don't think the matrix for mine is available here.
My understanding is that the whole heating system is different on the AC one
Any advice much appreciated
Ta
Derek

When I ha "steam" coming from my vents in the Integra it was because the cooling matrix gave up the ghost and was releasing the refrigerant (freon) into the cabin. I haven't bothered to get it fixed as it would cost three times what the car is worth and don't really need it here either although it was handy to get rid of excess moisture off the windshield.
For the TR7 I would think it would be similar. Yes the TR7 A/C heater is slightly different to non A/C. In mine when I took the heater out there was no freon left, just a slight psst on undoing the supply hose. Heater works fine so I left everything as is. If your cooling matrix released the freon (steam) your heater matrix should still work fine. If the heater matrix fails you'll see coolant in the damp carpet.

Are there 2 matrix then? I shut off the heater. I need to investigate it further but don't want to take out the dash
Did you remove the AC unit? I just want it to blow hot air when I need it
If I'm not losing coolant is the stuff coming out of the vents refrigerant? Hopefully I'll not have a hole in the ozone above my house,!

I left everything as it was. It wasn't working when I got the car, pump belt was removed so left it that way. The mist is the freon I'm pretty sure as I've seen that. Assuming the heater matrix isn't leaking (and it sounds like it isn't) or blocked with grunge it should work fine.

Sorry, I don't know how I missed this one.
Feel that steam. On humid days my air con will actually give some fog. The cold has condensed the water vapour in the air, & turned it into a fog/mist. It is similar to breathing out a breath on a very cold day.
Don't know about a much of Scotish climate, but my experience was that Scapa Flow was about the most moist air you could breath & not drown.

Just ripped it out. As soon as I pick up a 38mm socket I'll take the pulley off.
Weather in Scotland is rain 350 days per year. Although a whopping 27,c today.
