Shortening of the gearbox extension.

I need to shorten the gearbox extension to enable me to fit an R380 gearbox.
Have managed to do a 'Z' cut to the extension housing but would like advice on the best way to shorten the selector rod from someone who has carried out this mod.
Thanks.

Never have done it myself, but bearing in mind one of the ball joints on the selector shaft van be removed and the other can not, there are two options i.m.h.o.;
1. Cut the required length from the middle of the shaft and weld the ends together. Carefully machine the weld to the same diameter of the shaft, otherwise it will foul on bearings inside the extension;
2. Cut the required length from the end of the shaft (were the removable ball joint sits) and machine a new hole for the joint's lock nut.

Thanks for that beans.
Agree, those are the 2 options, but I was hoping for a reply from Odd or Bobbieslandy who have both carried out this mod, but looking at there posting history Odd has not been on the forum for over a year and Bobbieslandy since February.
Anyone know what has happened to Odd, his postings were always interesting and informative.
