I have recently taken off my door mirrors as they were loose and flopping around. I have the bits as below in the picture (1 & 3) but not 2. I think they were loose as part three was on top of the door going through the holes. So on the drivers side, I put it inside the door and screwed part 1 to it. This created a far better fit and now the mirror is nice and secure.

I have two questions:

1. Should I be using part two on top of the door (as a gasket) and fitting part one on top of it or if you have three and one can you discard two?

2. Part three has broken on my passenger door, does the mirror mounting kit come with it?

This look to be the aftermarket version - very close to the original but with slightly different fitments and a slightly different neck.

Play with the various 1,2,3 to get the best fit as i've seen them fitted in numerous ways and none are right or wrong!

Thanks for the reply. I think I have the answer now. I think that the way I had it (1 & 3) is correct. I have been able to locate a new part (number 3) and I have it on order. Shame I had to buy the other items in the kit too, but at the end of the day it is cheaper than buying a new mirror and kit. Then I would have a spare mirror too lol. I

Those are the modern version that you can buy now. The problem is that the base shown in your picture 1 is made of quite fragile plastic and will break very easily as you try to tighten the screws. It also uses self tappers to hold the mirror onto the door instead of the original method of bolts into a metal plate on the inside. The holes are also spaced differently so you have to drill new holes in your door. The original ones also have a cast aluminium mounting instead of that flimsy plastic. Best bet is to try and find some of the old metal types, you may get some from S&S or Robsport.

pic shows some of the variety of "standard" mirror fixings. Best option in my opinion is the setup on the right.
