A cold sunny day for the wedge to....

pass its MOT today with no advisories. As always the photo makes it look better than it is up close. This is just afterwards at Drayton Garage in Barley, close to where Robsport used to be. After being laid up for a while I had to fit a new clutch slave cylinder, steering column bush, rear brake shoes and handbrake cable.
It took a while for the V8 to clear its throat as it ran roughly until warmed up. After that it was an assault on the senses............

A cool (too cold for top down but too warm to turn on heater) sunny day here too. Took the tarp and car cover off (been stored outside this winter as the Tercel has the garage for it's restoration) and discovered I left the handbrake engaged. The rear brakes were rusted but they broke free after a few tries. Ran smooth from start up (the advantages of FI). Forgot my camera so no pictures. Parked it with no ebrake, in gear, block of wood under rear wheel (there is no flat ground here). Back under tarp. Rain in the forecast. February showers bring March flowers......isn't that how the saying goes?

Been out for run here in Gloucestershire as well. The past couple of days have been sunny but cold (5-6deg C) but lovely with the top down.
I took my old rally navigator for a ride yesterday and he was impressed with the ride and space in the TR7, but then he was more used to the old separate chassis sidescreen cars. He actually has a very nice TR6 sitting in his garage which has been there for several years because of his work commitments.
Wonder if I have converted him to the Wedge?

I don't want to be a 'Mood Hoover' but I'm paranoid about taking my 'soluble asprin' TR7 out on roads that are thick with salt! I'm terrified it'll be a Flinstone car within a month!
Maybe I should just get it on the road and enjoy it. Especially in this glorious winter sunshine we've been having.

Great stuff. Nice to see some are not having much trouble with their wedges.
Just think of us poor sods here in Oz. Here in Queensland it's about 18 to 20C every night, & just above or below 30C every day.
The air conditioning compressor packed up on my shopping trolley a couple of weeks ago. I used the Honda S2000 for the shopping trip, 25 kilometres each way, & actually stopped & put the top up, it was so hot, at about 34C that day. I do find it hard to imagine having to lay up my cars for 6 months, & do feel for you folk, but really hot is not convertible weather either.
The poor buggers in the south & west have had the winds blowing out of our central desert, & have been getting high thirties for a couple of weeks. One race I did in South Australia in those conditions, I had to throw my visor out after the race. The track was melting, [very slippery too] in places, & we couldn't get the bitumen stains off it after the race.
Still I'll take my hot rather than your cold any day.

I always joke about California, there are only three seasons you can use a convertible and summer isn't one of them.
Same for you I'm sure.
Here, I look forward the the few weeks of 80F weather we get were you can go for a cruise at night in a T-shirt and not feel cool (just look it).

It got up to 38.5 degrees Celsius In London back in 2003 and it wasn't pleasant. I don't envy the Australian heat but could we share it around a little?
To be fair, in the SE of the UK, the weather is OK. We only get about 550mm of rain per year. I was using my wedge up until mid January as there had been no temps below about 8 C and so the salt was kept in the silos. It'll be back on the road in March I reckon so I can join the traffic jam on the A12
So there you have it. What would people rather have? California with its beautiful blue skies, it constant temperature and low rainfall, striking scenery and snaking roads
or Essex with....with...what we've got....

Hi Adam,
Well done mate
My FHC passed last weekend, was so tempted to tax it and take her to Stoneleigh but really the wrong end of the month, will put her on the road in April for Old Warden show and New Forest Run.
Cheers John

I have no idea Supercass. I've seen quite a few DHC's over the years on a UCA***V plate. I bought mine from a guy in Edgware back in the summer of 1986. At 6 years old it had already had 4 owners before him and wore Norwich dealer plates

I take the view that the car is for driving, not sitting in the garage - but then mine isn't one of the show type cars. I like that it doesn't owe me (too) much money and the odd chip or scratch won't ruin years of work.
Don't know what I would do if I had one like some of Christopher's beauties.

Drive mine in all weather's and hard .... ATR 7A has just undergone a MAJOR restoration but was driven 1000 miles in a few days (despite having covered only 6000 miles from new), EAC 595T (the only RHD convertible made at Speke and under 19000 miles from new) has done 500 miles this year, Beastie (stunning original TR8) is my daily driver ......
Cars are for driving!

Started my TR7V8 conversion up today - fired after thirty seconds, then left it to warm through. It's going to the NEC next weekend for a makeover on the TRDC stand - new wool carpet throughout! Will be better than the carpet we've got indoors - rugs and stone floors! The Fixed Head was taken to Stoneleigh last weekend - proof is in in this week's Classic Car Weekly!
Cars are meant to be used!

Christopher I am happy to stand corrected, and so glad to hear your drive it approach.

I agree with that completely. After my bare metal respray I am very loath to take the 7 anywhere near a shopping centre car park. I got a door swage dinged the second time I did. After repairs I just don't do it, & do feel it was better to have a slightly tatty 7, I could DD, rather than a special occasion car. Ridiculously I will use the S2000 Honda, [very low mileage & immaculate, worth around $30,000 in Oz], rather than the $5000 TR 7 for shopping centres.
