Anyone in Somerset?

So I am getting to grips on what I can, and can't do with 'Gitty'. Electrics, cosmetics, basic stuff I am happy to have a go at. However a few jobs have stumped me and jobs such as replacing the carb spindles just beyond my capability and tooling !

What I really could do with is some local tr7 enthusiasts to offer and ask for the occasional help, along with some recommendations for a local garage that can do the bits I can't.

Anyone out there in my area or recommendations ?

Somerset is a big county - where are you? I am in Templecombe.

You will get a lot of advice to answer specific questions from the many knowledgeable people on here. Carb spindles - if the carb body is worn where the spindles pass through then you are going to need a specialist to repair them - not so much a TR7 expert as an SU expert. You might be better off buying an exchange set of carbs from someone like Andrew Turner Carburetors as all the service parts will have been replaced, not just spindles.

Thanks Tony, I am in Wookey so not that far from you I think. The problem with the carbs is that not many people will touch them! I will do bit more investigation in my local area. The car runs fine, just bit fast when it has warmed up.

Do you have the later type SUs with the waxstat jets? That could be the problem as the when the engine has warmed up the wax capsule expands to push the jet up a fraction, which leans off the mixture - this was an emissions related thing back in the day. Of course a slightly leaner mixture will also affect the idle speed.

Many people change the jets back to the non waxstat type, kits of parts are readily available but you do have to remove the carbs to do the job.
