Whats ALWAYS in your toolkit?

Just about to go on a longish tour from Sunny Manchester down to Exeter across to Portsmouth and finally end up in Brighton (going to see Dave Gilmour). What do you always put in your toolkit if you're going to be away from your garage?

Bicycle cable and variable end (in case throttle cable brakes), zip ties (used that when fellow traveller's rubber carb mounts split), chain tensioner, small multi meter, Duct tape, I actually used that when Ron's PCV plastic surround melted and was spewing oil onto his exhaust manifold (Buick V-6). I found an evergreen branch that had fallen off a tree at the side of the road. It had to be about the same size, not too green (couldn't break it off to size), not too old (it would crumble into bits) just the right (like Goldilocks porridge), wrapped some duct tape around it until it was the right diameter to stick in and plug the hole.
Got him the rest of the way home (179 miles).

Got to be a story there for inclusion in Volume II 'A Celebration of MORE Things SEVEN...'

Hi,
AA membership card and a thermos flask........ any problem call the man in the yellow van, give him a coffee out of the flask, tell him to sit in the said van, then use his tools to fix my car.
To be honest you fix so many things with stuff you find laying around.... some of you gents that hung around the original forum along time ago can possibly remember my very good mate Paul W, we were off to a show one Sunday when Paul's car, I think it was his Grinnal FHC V8, lost power. Pulling over and looking under the bonnet found the link rod to one of the carbs had broken its ball joint, allowing it to flap around in the breeze. Looking around on the ground we found various items and with aid of one of Pauls hair bands ( true rocker our Paul ) we ' re-engineered ' the link. Remember its only a bodge if it dont work !! It not only lasted all day but several weeks
Cheers John

Yes, where & more importantly how is Paul. I miss his cheery presence, & his green dragon.
I am currently still driving my 7 with the good condition stock steering wheel he sent me, when I mentioned I liked them, & mine was suffering from Ozzie sun stroke.
As for tools I carry a jack & wheel brace, & in the 7 a screw driver, & a new inline fuel filter, from the days of a rusty petrol tank.
As for roadside assist, your AAA, they aren't much use in Oz these days. I think they still change wheels for ladies, but with modern cars requiring more than the a points file or a fuel filter to get going, they usually just tow you to a near by service shop. With about 30 years membership I think I get 20 Km free, then pay commercial rate. Hardly worth waiting hours for really.

Here's a pic of the toolkit in a Giocattolo (an Aussie made Supercar built in the '80s, only 15 built)
Note: the bottle of rum and the two glasses. the theory was that if the problem was more than could be fixed with the tools supplied, you'd probably need a stiff drink!
