Rear Spoiler, or is it!?

Postby Stevie P » 27 Jun 2015 17:00

After craving a rear spoiler I have found a brand new Richard Grant rubber one, only now that I've fitted it, I am not sure I like it as much as I thought I would!

What say you?

From those angles it fits well. IIRC it was a period accessory in its time, especially in black. No self respecting boy racer was without one.

It looks good, but I think I would have liked one that stretched across the entire back end rather than just on the boot lip. Beauty is in the eye etc.

I'm not anti spoiler, I made them put one on when I bought my Integra back in '91, it doesn't look right without it (they were standard on LS and GS models but not on my base RS model. That being said they don't look right to me on a TR7 (too boy racer as stated).

The 'good' news is, it's only on with double sided tape, so in can be removed with no damage left behind.

I need to look at it more to decide if it stays or not!

I bought a convertible off a chap around 1992. When I viewed the car I left a deposit and told him I would collect the car the next weekend. When I went to collect he had fitted a similar spoiler but it was drilled through the bootlid thinking I would like it as he had bought it but never fitted it. I was mortified and asked my deposit back, eventually he knocked £250 of the car and I bought a secondhand bootlid in the same colour from a bloke who used to break Triumphs in Selly Oak for £25. Nice result got even better as I sold the bootlid with the spoiler on for £50.

TR7 is one of those cars where I am never sure about a spoiler, somehow spoils the purity and smoothness of line. I feel the same about the Alley roll bar on mine but if I took it off it would probably crumple in!

I'm glad it's only on with sticky tape, TR7's look fine without bits of rubber stuck on the boot. :)
