Forum Update and Future

Ok, we have all had a little time to get used to the new format, 95%+ positive comments and the move has been relatively painless! We have lost only a handful of members and already gained 120 members since we opened the doors. Spam Attacks are under control and content added regulary (new photos in
http://tr7triumph.com/#/gallery ).
We are reviewing and taking note of suggestions and 'wants' and will get these rolled into place as and when we can.
PHOTOS - we decided to use the old system at the outset and now have added the possibility to post photos directly on the post (max 3).
TR DATABASE - this is tickling along nicely, there is over 115000 records to upload and it is planned to be complete in approx 3 years - until then we will roll out a few 1000 at a time - please keep sending in your photos and VIN numbers so the database can be tied up (especially your old photos).
Any questions then fire away!

Speaking of photos; now that there is an easily accessible photo gallery, wouldn't it be nice to post all the photos that ended up on Maxwell's Wedge Wall in one nice set? Hint, Hint, Hint.....

whitenviro - excellent point and 'twill be done - it'll be a little while as the current sytem only allows 30 photos per album ... but this is also being addressed!
if you want to see more photos the feel free to nosey my flicker albums at :

Does the site automatically scale down the photos? I think most people just use what ever they've taken the picture at what ever default, eg. 5 meg for phones, 14 meg for cameras or what ever when to view on screen you might only need 1.3 meg or so. Sites like photobucket limit sizes to about the 1.3 meg or so. Makes for a big savings in space.

FI Spyder - aye it does and then resizes for whatever screen it's being shown on

Where should the VIN details and photos be sent?
I have sent details to some databases in the past but have no idea if you have them. Did you inherit any other database or is this starting from scratch?

Saabfast - i started the database from scratch about 20 years ago, i have been adding to it ever since. Recently I have been entrusted with the BL records which is helping to fill in some major holes ... any help from member makes it even better!

forum will be offline for about 30 mins over the next 24 hours as we update it in response to your requests :
1. tidying up icon navigation underneath main picture including notifications which were problematic
2. added pagination and post reply to foot of the topic and forum
- also added post reply to tools on each post
- added in subscribe and unsubscribe to forum at the foot of the page
- took out some of the "funny " fonts and toned down the orange
- substituted the word "forum" in the main image title with the username of the member, if not logged in it will say "Anonymous"
3. photos (max 3) can be directly uploaded into each post - if you can use photobucket / flikr then that would be useful as it will save forum space.

just out of curiosity, what will (approx.) the size of this forum be ( gig) in webspace once its all up and running with the database and everything and will the servers be able to cope?
