Good insurance firm ?

Hi, my 7 is VERY close now to completion and my thoughts turn to insurance.
I seem to remember a post on here about an insurance company that was very "flexible" with the policy terms, ie 6 months cover etc instead of a full year.
Can anyone tell me of a firm that does such a policy please without trawling through the internet for days.

Classic car insurance is relatively cheap, generally less than £100 for a limited mileage for the year. If you are thinking of running for the summer and storing for the winter (as I do) it is better to keep the insurance running just in case it gets damaged or stolen or something during the lay-up.

i pay around 120 a yr, as alan says for the relatively low annual cost easier to go for the whole year.

project dhc sold sadly, but project fhc taking over... Dave...

You should be able to get a whole year cover for around £100 and it will then also be insured in the garage over the winter. Don't see the point of 6 months cover.

A copy of Practical Classics wil probably have most of the likely candidates advertising.

I've used ClassicLine for years (used to be Ian Fray).

Limited to 3,000 miles and I pay around £130 IIRC and that's for a V8 under the bonnet.

If it is close to completion it should already be insured. for example a vandal breaking into your garage could ruin all your plans! Suggest you insure it pronto. Regards supercass

Not necessarily relevant to your situation in the UK, but I recently tried to get classic insurance on my TR8 from Haggerty. "Life is better in a classic," they advertise. I was rejected because of "inappropriate use" of my car. They didn't object to my 7300 mile cross-country trip to the Vintage Triumph Register event in North Carolina last year. That was a club event. All but a few weeks out of most years the car is locked in a secure rental garage in Oregon while I'm home in Alaska. Most of my trips to visit my family in Oregon are also planned around club events, the All Triumph Drive In, the All British Field Meet. They objected to me driving the car every day when I'm in Oregon. They don't want me driving it to visit my mother and leaving it parked in her driveway for a couple of nights. Go figure.

I'm surprised to hear that. Next time a Hagerty agent is at one our club meetings I'll have to ask them. Here you can get Hagerty or ICBC Collector plates. The Hagerty company rep in BC is former head of Collector Plate division for ICBC. I have the ICBC Collector Insurance so haven't delt directly with Hagery but a lot of club members do. I know they (both) want the car garaged and not sitting out on the street but seem to look sideways at the occasional street parking as in overnight street parking when over the Straits at Van Dusen, Boys Run, Brits Round BC, trips to Disney land, Portland ABFM, ATDI, on and on. One guy with a BSA car did enquire about garage parking for Van Dusen but nobody else pays it any mind. I don't know if it's a case of don't ask, don't tell. Nobody has actually made a claim but it's never been an issue to date. As far as daily driving when you are down here, with ICBC you can drive it as much as you want, where you want, when you want as long as you have an other vehicle with regular insurance. Just no driving to school or to work. As I am not a student and am retired I drive it constantly all summer (except when it's raining) and occasionally in winter if I have the hood up (when it's dry). Many club members do the same.

That's pretty much how Haggerty's rules read, too. What they didn't like was that my daily driver was in a different state, even though that's where I spend most of my time.
