I recently got a copy of TR7 Repair Operations Times published May 1976. Has anybody seen a more up to date edition?

What is operation times? The length of time it should take to do a job? I would have to multiply by 5. [:p]

This publication is what the factory would allow the dealers for warranty work charged back to them. It should also have been used for retail operations, but wasn't.

Mine is Publication # HAC 52 G-1 from 1979.

It is important to always read the the introduction for vital bits of wisdom. In particular is this passage. " No allowance has been included for inaccessibility through damage, removing extras or special fitments, freeing seized parts, removing rusted or broken studs or bolts, or subsequent repairs after test."

So, when the book shows the time for operation 12.29.02 Cylinder head gasket - remove and refit - 2.45 hours, please take to heart the above qualifying statement.

Eventually they relented on that ruling, you could claim extra time. It was recorded by the operation code followed 00 and was called with no surprise double zero zero time. In fact when the Rover 800 came out they gave you 10% extra time because they didn't want repairs rushed and it was at the time a big jump forward.


That has changed on modern cars where they will now pay for ' issues ' during a warranty repair, its called Open Time but must be clocked separately. Also includes diagnoses time for electrical faults etc.
