yesterday when returning from a drive my indicators ceased to work.
Thinking it was a fuse issue I checked this morning and found that they worked.
However they gave about 10 flashes and then stopped.
This happened on both left and right indicators.
During the 10 the flash rate slowed.
Waiting 10 minutes and try again, result one flash and then nothing.
Any ideas?

Replace flasher unit with an electronic one

Quite often running the hazard warning lights for a while sorts the indicators out. It's worth a try.

Second the hazzards, the indicators go through the hazard switch which if not used in time develops a poor connection, switching them on and off often cleans the contacts, it is also possible to take the switch appart and clean it.

I second Mariusl, switching to a modern electronic flasher unit makes a great difference, you get a regular flash rate no matter what the engine revs.

I don't know about the smaller alternators but the A/C cars with the larger (in amps) alternator the signal rate is always the same except for when you have the lights on and the heater going full blast and idling, they do slow down a little then. As they are dependant on resistance all connections (including contacts) in the circuit must be clean. As well the alternator must be able to put out it's full capable output with good brushes, clean contacts and a clean commutator.
