What are your thoughts on using a Dynamat type product in place of the underfelt. I have stripped out the interior to get things properly dry over the winter rest. The felt really holds any water that gets in so my thoughts are that something less absorbent would be better. Less likely to soak up water and get smelly.

Being a total cheapskate and based on experience from ny son's classic Mini I used self adhesive roof flashing band on the floor and bulkhead.Easy if slightly messy to fit using a hairdryer,sticks like the proverbial to a blanket and I hope the bitumen backing affords some waterproofing.Steve..

What do you mean with "underfelt"?
Never seen anything other than a bitumen mastic kind of anti resonance material on a TR7.
On the DHC I removed everything and replaced it with this product from 3M ...







Lighter and better sound proofing compared to the original material.

My car had a separate thick felt layer under the carpets, maybe up to 10mm thick. Perfect to collect and hold any water that gets in. Its not going back!

I used a similar product to dynamat produced in Canada. Over top of the foil based sound deadener, I had placed a closed cell foam pad sold by the same company. It is similar to the thick foam underlay found on the rear bulkhead. The company name is B-Quiet. I am very pleased with the results, and this product might be what you're after. There must be a similar product in the UK.

Steve, yours looks like an after market kit so the felt was probably added at the time the carpet was replaced. The factory sound deadening should still be present underneath. The original carpet had a foam backing. supercass

That's it Don. It only went on the floor. I re-used the rear bulkhead stuff over the foil backed rubber.
