Centre console wiring

Postby dursleyman » 28 Jul 2014 23:34

Just putting the centre console back and have come up with a couple of questions, please see picture.

Image

First, I don't got any supply at the red wire labelled "B" feeding the dimmer when I turn the lights on. I have never driven this car in the dark so don't know if the dash lights ever worked. All sidelights work and fuses are OK so can someone tell me where that red wire picks up its feed from?

Second, what does the plug labelled "A" do as I don't seem to have a use for it? Colours are red/white and black so presumable lighting for something.

Hi Russ,
I wouldn't worry about wire A, that is an optional extra, I have the same on my TR7.
Sorry can't help with the other problem, but maybe a broken earth somewhere.

I believe "A" is used to light the shift mechanism on the console to the automatic tr7's.

OK I decided this was silly so I had a ponder over the wiring diagram and the red feed wire comes direct from the fuse. So then I suspected the loom could have been messed about with or damaged but could not see any signs of this. Then whilst I was rummaging with the fuse box and loom the lights came on! The problem turned out to be a simple case of a poor/loose connection in the fuse box. Easy fix.

Thanks guys for the information on the spare plug, now I know its not in use I can ignore it and leave it stowed safely.
