looking for expansion bottle mount

Postby Stevie P » 12 Jul 2014 11:28

to mount on UK drivers side inner wing, mine has a workshop made arrangement, good, but I'd like something more factory looking.

Cheers,

Steve

There's one currently listed on ebay that appears to be for RH fitment:

Thought as much,
Shame as if I could have found my spare one I would have taken it to Billing for the Charity Bring & Buy Auto-Jumble

I replaced the waxed cardboard flap covering the space beside the radiator, on the drivers side with a slightly smaller piece of tin, cut from galvanised roof guttering painted body colour.

On this I mounted the part that actually holds the bottle, of the bracket from one of our 86 Cressidas, & slipped the Cressida bottle in. Took about 15 minutes, apart from the time watching the paint dry.

Looks like it should be there, blanks that space usefully, & keeps the header tank full, & looks a hell of a lot better than that clamp on ebay.

Sorry I don't own a camera.

I think the brass tank looks right, also allows water to feed into system somewhat by gravity and not just having to pull it a longer way up by suction when the temperature of coolant drops. Depending on the year of car it started on the RH side, then in 1980 got moved over to the LH side to make room for the Air Mass Meter on FI cars. At the same time it got a hole in the side for the coolant level sensor which turns on a light on the dash to warn it's time to top up. When it gets close, mine will turn on when I'm driving up my steep driveway and road up to next street. When the car levels out or water warms up and expands the light will go out so you get plenty of warning.
