tyre pressure

Postby TRJIMBO » 05 Jul 2014 14:59

I have a FHC V8 running on 15inch minilites shod with 195/55 tyres.

I keep them inflated to 33psi. I don't know why, I just made up a figure that looked about right, I can't refer to a hand book because they are non-standard. Any ideas what PSi I should I inflate them to for good fuel efficiency on the road?

I run 28to30psi for both 195 60 14 and 195 50 15. Personally I prefer the 60 profile for handling, comfort and aesthetics.

fuel efficiency , V8 wedge? I think tyre inflation will be white noise on your mpg graph -negligible. Ignition, carb settings and your right foot will have a much larger effect on mpg but smiles per mile with a V8 is priceless.

Thanks for that. I noticed since I've had a weber fitted that my right foot sinks deeper to the floor. I'm getting 33mpg on a run out. I'm measuring urban driving this week. I have a feeling its going to be about 14. Like you say, it's a great laugh though.

Wow!

33 mpg was about the best I got with the 2.0L engine on a run when it was my daily driver back in the day.

I run 28/30 in the 7 & the 8 on 185 70 13/205 60 13 on the 7, &
195 60 15/215 50 15 on the 8,

I get 30 MPG from the slightly uprated 7, & 29 MPG from the hot as hell 4.6L in the 8.

Interestingly I get between the 2 from my 250 BHP Honda S2000, & about 28 MPG from my Ozzie Ford Capri, with it's Mazda 1600 100 BHP engine. Size or power doesn't appear to have much effect on my fuel consumption.

Well as Busheytrader says, it's all about the right foot!

I don't remember what I got from my old 2 litre. It seemed to run on a mixture of petrol and water. I know it pulled fairly well when driven right. I reckon the 2 litre must be a lot better around town
