Headlight motors question

I reinstalled the headlights & connected them up today. When I turn the light switch on, the lights illuminate as they should, but the motors go into a continuous cycle - up, down, up, down etc. I vaguely recall reading about this issue in the past but I can't find any info on it.
A little history - the headlamp pods were completely disassembled, cleaned & reassembled, but the motors themselves were not cracked open.
Any info and/or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Hi Jon,
Is it one or both headlamp getting ' Funky ' ! ?
Would as a first step check all connections behind the headlamps and the earths at this point.
Did this problem occur only after rebuilding the units ?
Cheers John

John, the issue is occurring with both headlights. They worked fine when I removed them from the car 5 1/2 years ago when I began the restoration. This the first time they have been back in the car since I took them apart for cleaning

Jon, if you have not disassembled the motors then it is not so likely that there is a problem with the limit switches in both motors at the same time.
Apart from the engine bay earths, the earths for the run/stop relays in the fuse box area would be a good place to check - if the relays don't earth then the pod motors will keep running.
If you can follow electrical circuits then this is a very helpful explanation of how the lights work:

In case you haven't solved this yet... If its not the earths for the limit switches and the lights go up and down for 5 minutes of so and finally stop in the up position, then perhaps the diodes in the circuit need to be replaced. I had a friend with this problem years ago and replacing the diodes was the solution.
