That Triumph sign is from a Triumph motorcycle, different company since the '30's. Have fun on the restoration and hope the journey is as much fun as the destination will be. Any help you need will be found here.

Had a '55 Chevy back in the day. Only problem was it was a 2 speed auto with 6 cylinder but I did get it for $250.

Mt Dad had a'56 back in the early 60's. I always liked them better than the '55 or '57's,thought they were better looking. Particularly liked the hidden gas cap.

Hi,
Always liked Chevy 55 - 57 but the 55 in Two Lane Black Top takes some beating, ' Bad Ass ' drag racer in primer [8D]
Whilst not a huge fan of the custom decals they are really very period for the time !
You have the foundations of a great looking car, restoring to standard or modified ?
Cheers John

Always on a budget so will probably leave 4bbl carb on it, but keep the original fuel system, for a future standard restoration. The PO drained the oil from the engine, not sure what effect that will have on the engine, unless some moisture has got in. A convertible top is first on the list, how hard is it to pull the V8? He was working on replacing the clutch slave, not sure if easier if I pull the engine, would also enable me to pull oil pan and check the insides. I'm sure it's been discussed here, what's the guesses on how many TR8s are still around with original Stromburgs?

Hi,
Clutch slave cylinder bottom of the bell housing and passenger side ( on cars with the steering wheel on the wrong side [;)] ) Couple of points to watch, withdraw it gently so the release fork don't fall of pivot and don't over tighten the securing bolts.
Have you got any type of clutch pedal. Only ask as its not unknown for the release fork to wear completely through at the pivot point, resulting in box out to replace. Hopefully your is just a hydraulic problem.
Cheers John

Can't check the clutch pedal, the line is disconnected. It may be the fork if that's a commmon problem.

Hi,
One other thought, if the oil has been drained from the sump, not sure why the P.O. has done that ?, but these engine wont self prime the oil system if the pump have become empty.
The arguably best way is to un bolt the base of the oil pump, remove the gears and pack with vasoline ( best stuff as break down in the oil to nothing, un-like grease ) Fill the oil filter as high as you can, remove a valve cover, remove plugs and spin over until oil light goes off and oil can just be seen coming out between the rockers, should be a lot so may have to look carefully. These engines run a low pressure but high volume system. I have an adaptor to spin the oil pump over with the dizzy out using an electric drill to get pressure, but been round these great engines for years.
Cheers John
