Lounge at some mgf wheels and came across "6j". Not sure what this means as I thought the 14 to 16 inch was the main bit. Can anyone throw some light on this and if they will be ok for our cars.

It means that it is a 6" wide rim with a "J" type Tyre/rim contour (most common)
There are also J, JJ, K, JK, B, P and D : Tyre bead profiles / rim contour designations.
Some 4x4 use JJ, old Jaguars use K and some older Volkies use B fr'instance.

Don't you just love the fact that almost all cars still use imperial measurements for wheel and tyre sizes. I can think of a couple of cars that tried metric sizes like some models of the Metro and Montego, and I think some run-flats, but everything else is good old imperial.
