Air Conditioning retrofit?

Postby sheetsofsound » 26 Jan 2014 02:02

I am in the process of rebuilding my second non-a/c heater matrix. As the core of this one needs replacing, I am wondering if anyone has tried fitting a non-triumph heater core/evaporator into one of these things? What do I do about the fact that the non-a/c core constantly has engine coolant flowing through it? I haven't seen a core with a/c to figure out how it works and I don't have the TR7 factory manual to look at diagrams.

I am putting a 3800 series 3 in one of my 7's, and I got the compressor and some other bits as part of the engine purchase. I just thought I'd try and use the parts...

Although it looks similar from the outside, the A/C heater unit for the TR7/8 is very different internally to the non A/C cars. The hot matrix has a valve to regulate or close off the coolant flow, unlike the non A/C unit.

Some of the internal parts wee also used in the A/C systems of other cars but I don't know of anyone who has fitted a whole system from another make into the TR7 heater unit, however our friends from the States may be better qualified to comment as we never had A/C on UK spec cars!
