I did mine myself, with a little trepidation at the start. Just need to take your time to line it all up and read any articles first so that you know where you are going. Most difficult part I found to get a decent finish was at the ends of the header rail where it all folds together. No doubt a trimmer would have made a better job of that part.
Hoods are available in various materials from cheaper vinyl to mohair (which I used). It really needs to be done in a heated shop or on a hot day, particularly with vinyl, to soften the material and be able to stretch and work it.
