Wouldn't it be nice?

I see today that Clay just posted the instructions for replacing the lower steering bushing again for the umpteenth time. I really like the personal service the forum has; everyone is free to ask a question and you can be sure it will be answered. But some topics that we have been over many times keep re-appearing.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a forum section titled "Technical", or "Common Repairs", or something like that, for those things we have all run into that have a definitive solution and well written instructions? That way when it's time to do a water pump, you just go to a water pump thread and there it all is, written out, with everyone's suggestions and input. Or bushings, or brakes or bearings or carbs; all laid out in front of you. It could even include the pages from the factory repair manuals as a way to start each topic.

Some repairs have been mentioned so many times that the Search feature will return hundreds of threads, so it is increasingly difficult to find a good write-up for some of the things we look for.

Any suggestions on how to start that?

I keep putting things up on web sites and then they dissappear, like Apple Me and now Google+. I am sorry if I repeat myself too much, but there is always new members joining who have the same issues. I don't know where we could put them all and have them stay forever. Look what happened to the World Wide Wedge. Now, TWOA is trying to keep the old things alive and are constantly adding new articles, but you do have to join to get access. There were tons of articles on my download site put there by the Wedge Shop and other people, but they have disappeared.

Not wanting to sound mean, but they are all there if people would use the "seach" function properly......

I always refer to the archives when I have a problem, and look over what has been said in the past, then compare the notes to my current trouble and see if they are compatible .
Mildred (along with many others) has taken the time and made some very good repair documents and we sticky them as necessary so they stay on top. We also have specific sections for the different variations of our cars , if they would be used as intended , this would cut down some of the search times.

Clay & Seven: I am not complaining about anyone being repetitive; I am actually amazed that you and others have the patience to keep answering all of our questions. I'm sorry that you <b><i>have to be</i></b> repetitive! If anything I'm saying there is so much information here that it gets difficult to find things. If we had a section organized by repair topic, (sort of like YOUR web page Clay) it would help.

In a prior lifetime I had VW campers and always found it easy to find things on this forum: http://www.westfalia.org/community/forum.php?

Check out the way their technical section is organized.

wow there is a lot of information on that site , I like westies a lot, so I'm going to spend a little time there checking information out (a vw van is on the bucket list [;)])

One thing I noticed though is there is hardly as much traffic or posting as on our site (guess that it's much newer) and to transfer all "our" information over to a new site and organise it would be quite the job !!!!! Personally I also hate the adverts [:(!]

I've taken no offense to your thread ,receiving feedback from you guys is always good, and one day we will get an upgrade with a new format.... I do like the layout of the westfalia site and it could be something to eventually consider.

I am quite hesitant to see the forums changed. I do see Whitenviro's point. At the back of my mind I have been pondering going thru my articles to extract and repost them in a new thread. I am hesitant to do so at this time due to other projects around here. I fear to do so would take up a good amount of space and perhaps appear a bit self serving.

Still, with this cold weather limiting outdoor activity, it is a tempting idea.

I have downloaded much of Clay's content on his site in case of the apocalypse, I'll have then on my computer.[:p]

I kind of like the forum as it is as compared to others. I've always thought the TR7 section was for technical stuff, general wedge chit chat for none technical stuff.

As Clay mentioned, the internet is constantly in flux and you can never be sure things stored someplace will be there forever.
