hya all

please can anyone help.

I have a W reg conv TR7 which according to the plate/serial numbers, the car is a late canley car. However the trim colours suggest the car was built as a sliver car with blue velour trim. The car is red with check cloth. So i assumed in its 30 year history the colour has been changed.

However after talking to the TR stand at the NEC yesterday, they say, if its a canley car, the manufacture date is stamped under the o/s boot panel and the indicator stalks would have the wiper switches on the right, not the left.

Can anyone help with any clues please???????

Thanks

There is a plate riveted on the drivers side door (rear edge). Not sure if it is opposite on a UK car. It has the month and year of manufacture and paint and trim codes. Not sure if early cars had it. Sometimes these plates are taken off to properly respray and not put back on. Not unusual for trim to be replaced in past thirty years, even know of one car that was painted off the show room floor because the customer wanted that colour and dealership wanted it sold. I can happen quite early in the cars life. My 1980 Spider's seats were recovered prior to 1985 (the striped seats had lots of thread/sewing that did not stand up well although usually not that soon) and the recovered seats still look new to this day. Or maybe the original owner just didn't like racing stripes.

Cars sometimes sat at the dealership for a while and were registered when they were sold as opposed to what year they actually were. My Yellow TCT was made in early 1979 but is registered as a 1980. I can't be bothered to correct it (if I could).
