New sign in my garage

Postby Graham Robertson » 26 Oct 2013 13:46

Acquired a Leyland "Gauntlet" original dealership sign for my garage [:)]

I believe "Gauntlet" was like Leyland's version of Vauxhall's Network Q, back in the day.

I bought the sign from the original proprietor of a Glasgow dealership.

Edit: looking at the photo's I'll have tidy up that feed cable!

A great find, but I'm more curious about what's hiding in the Marks & Spencer carrier bag!

Probably another Dacia sign....

That Leyland sign looks cool. I don't remember them back in the day...

The Dacia sign is the original one from the Aberdeen dealership back in the 80's. I bought a Duster in April and a friend spotted the sign, and coincidentally I discovered that I knew the owner of the building and he duly took down the sign and gave it to me! One side was all broken but I found every piece inside and managed to glue them all back together.

What is a Dacia? I don't think we have them in Australia.

A Romanian manufacturer, now owned by Renault (and my Duster was built in India).

I have a REALLY nice light up British Airways sign from 1979. Perfect for the works car display!

Years ago my workmate had a Renault 12 lookalike, I think it was called a Dacia Denem. Last week he bought a 13 plate Duster DCI Laureat(not sure what that means)4 wheel drive for under £10k, must be the bargain of the century.

That's likely correct! I must admit that when I bought the sign I was chatting to the seller who originally owned the garage where the sign came from. On telling him I have two TR7's his reply was "they were rubbish cars".

I don't think he was referring to how they look or drive, but how often they broke down! I know today that our classic TR7's require quite high levels of maintenance but I don't suppose the maintenance requirements were any less 'back in the day'.

Nice find Graham! [:)]
I wouldn't mind having one of the twisted asshole signs myself (we didn't get the gauntlet though).
As of now I have one of the rather long TRIUMPH signs from a Swedish dealership showroom:

That looks great Odd. You've got slightly more space in your garage than I do!

Yup, sign of a new garage......empty shelves on the right. Bet that won't stay that way for long.[:p]

The only sign I've got is a "Triumph Parking Only" one I got for one Christmas.

That picture was before we tore down the old garage. It's taken from the then newbuilt half when I were moving all the stuff from the old into the newbuild in anticipation of the demolishing... You can follow the build via a slideshow at: http://tinyurl.com/pdyq7vt

Doesn't the insulation work better if you take it out of the bags? [:p]
