Headlamp Body Panel

Hi To All
I will need to replace the front body panel that surrounds the headlamps. Badly corroded and filled badly by the prior owner.
I have noticed that you can get metal and fibreglass, Opinions would be welcome on which to get fitted. Thankyou.
Regards.

Yes I agree with John, use metal, the fibre glass are hard to fit and the headlamp cut outs never look right.

Not wanting to hijack the thread, is the headlamp panel bolt on or weld on?

Thanks,

Steve

Fiberglass will be lighter and not rust, on the other hand you will have too spend ages getting it to fit properly and look reasonable, I would also suspect it will be liable to stress cracks at the corners around the headlamps.

I'd go for an original metal panel, and make sure it is rust-treated properly, this way it will outlast you [:p]

I can point you to a good second hand steel panel if you are interested, I removed a complete windscreen & scuttle from a DHC that someone was breaking last Sunday, the headlamp panel looked in excellent condition and would need removing but thats a simple job (unlike the windscreen surround)
Let me know if you want the guys details and I will PM them to you, he is a very pleasant gent and would let it go for a reasonable price, he has lots of other bits including a decent back axle.

Fibreglass front panel painted with aerosols, fits fine around the lights.. not so bad but it will be changed for metal.

Must admit that the picture above of the fiberglass one does not look bad at all. The only thing I would be worried about is its strength though. When putting in the engine the last time the bottom got caught on the panel in question and scratched it slightly. I just wonder if it would of done more damage to the fiberglass version. However, the taking out of the engine should not be that ofter :)
