Replacement TR7 Radio with CD

Searched the TR7 archives looking for a TR7 fitting radio with a cd player. I have tried a couple from Walmart but find most of these require the sleeve mounting system. The sleeve won't fit through the plastic surround opening. Have seen previous mention of the Pyle series as suitable for the opening and depth wise.

Pulled out an audiovox av934 am/fm/cassette which no longer worked even after repairing TR7 radio wiring harness. Nice sounding tape player at the end. Searches on the internet basically turned up large American farm tractors it was installed in!!! Wandering around a sports car club ice cream run did not help with solutions.

Make and models of stuff you know fits are appreciated. I am not a sound nut and just looking for a radio I can get the sports and ballgames on. Not into ipods, don't own an I-phone so digital music is of no interest. Just want to play my beach boys, and jan & dean tapes and cds when driving through the mountains.

CD's are digital music. The problem with CD radio players is their depth and you don't have much of that in a TR7 (CD's weren't invented then). If you use a radio that has a USB or SC card slot (and a home computer) you can convert the CD songs to MP3's, put them on one inexpensive SD card or thumb drive and away you go with many hours of listening enjoyment. No fancey iPod, smart phone, etc. needed. These radio's are often quite shallow. Pyle's are inexpensive. Won't equal sound of more expensive equipment but in a convertible not so important.

FI Spyder is right .. the CD Player are deep and why go for an old system ... you can use the new with your phone or USB stick much easyer..

I have a Pioneer DEH-2120UB with CD player and USB connectivity

As you can see the radio's mounting sleeve sticks out a bit,
but with some black vinyl and a bit of heavy duty window sealant/glue the end result is acceptable for me

Beans not to change the subject, but that black interior with the blue piping looks really good. What is it Leather or vinyl? How did you get the same with the knee bolsters?

The interior was done by an old school local car trimmer.
Seats are leather and he found vinyl with a matching grain for the door cards, kneepads etc.

Beans, what is the second courtesy light switch for?

I also have the hole but no switch on my passenger side (your driver's side) and wondered why it was there

I used a US spec car for the re-shell and they come with two switches on the drivers side and one on the passenger side as standard.
They both switch the door lights, but also the passenger door switches the lights.
But as I have them always in the "OFF" position I don't know how they really switch [:I]

I've just fitted a Sony CDX-DAB500u to the car.

It has a CD Player, Digital Radio, Aux input on the front and a USB socket. It fits in nicely. I had to open out the front hole slightly - just a bit of filing. I also had to add some re-reinforcing using plasticard to enable the cage to grip.

I've also replaced the old (and broken) aerial with one suitable for DAB.

The radio's station of choice (i.e. the one that comes up first when you tune it) is Absolute 80s - how does it know it's an 80s car?

One other slight mod is to provide a continuous positive feed in addition to the switched feed from the ignition switch. I have also added two 4LR44 batteries in series to provide a keep alive function if I disconnect the car's main battery. These are attached to the continuous power line with two diodes - one to stop the car charging the batteries (in the feed from the batteries and the other to stop the batteries running the car in the feed from the car system!
