Back from respray

Postby nick » 23 Jul 2013 22:59

Got the FHC back from the paint shop. I asked the painter to remove all visible dents and respray in the original mimosa yellow. I did not want to pay for a show quality job. I stripped off all that I could and he masked the rest. We only did the exterior. I didn't have high hopes considering the price but when I got the car back I was ecstatic. It looks very good and was worth twice the price.

It is road worthy but no exhaust yet from the down pipe back. So I have the interior to go which includes the second door card, seat covers and carpet. Also need a radio.

This car started out as a $250 project that was not running. The PO said if I hadn't come along he was taking it to the crusher. It is working out very well and I am pleased that I could save it.

If you're not looking for an original radio, this is the one I'm looking at for Yellow TCT when the time comes. Looks period (except for USB and SD card ports), inexpensive, decent sound (so some have reported). I think some one on this forum installed one.

Here they are by popular demand. As you can see I have a bit left to go especially in the interior. Decided I would depart from tradition and go with the tartan green door cards over the original black. The price was right.

Nice, and I think that the tartan green is a good choice for your car.

There seems to be mixed reviews on those cheaper Pyle models. One guy wrote that the tuner on this model gave up up very early on. I was thinking of going with the digital version which may eliminate that propblem

It only takes one to be a 100% failure rate if it's yours. Won't use the tuner much anyway, just the USB.SD card slots.

The reason I'd go with old style tuner is not for effect but it might be slipped past the collector plate/insurance guys for cheap insurance. A digital radio would not qualify. If that option isn't available in your area then it doesn't much matter.

Our collector insurance companies don't care what the radio looks like or any other mod you make. If it is old enough you declare what you want to insure it for, send them some pictures, and if you haven't overpriced you have your insurance.

I have a digital pyle radio. It is acceptable, but not great. I normally listen to news when I drive, so it is good enough for me.

That's right. I had the dent taken out. It came out very well. My only problem was fitting the grill. It doesn't lay in the channel as it did when new. I could also use a new one. The one in there is broken in three places. I see them on Ebay once in a while but they get a big buck for them.

I think there is a slight difference FHC to DHC, but I have the right half a grill from a DHC - yours if you want it.

Thanks for the offer but they are different. However I could use it for the DHC which also has a broken grill. I think I will put that car into the paint shop in the next few months.
The other thing I'm missing is one of the two small square BL badges that goes on the fender behind the wheel. I posted this in the parts section.
