Good or bad idea?

Got the "new" tank fitted in the car and I came up with an idea for those mounting studs that always twist off. I used lots of copper grease to try and avoid seizure but there is quite a lot of an exposed thread left sticking down. I found that vacuum hose from the servo is a good fit on the thread so I filled a short length (about 1 1/2") and pushed it over the thread. It could hardly make it worse so come back in ten years to see what happens.

It is so much easier for us Russ, in our car kinder climates, & I came up with a trick the first time I mucked with a tank.

By putting lock nuts on the studs where they come through inside the boot, & behind the trim on the rear bulkhead, mine have remained in place through a couple of tank removals over 12 years.
Combined with your grease trick, the problem should be long gone.

Don't know what you guys are talking about. [:p]

Original studs are pretty good shape. Oh, and I've been told on this forum that Sacramento, former home of Spyder, is not a desert, that they do get rain there (in the winter) 170 inches per year I believe (90% in January).[8D]

Are you sure they are original Spyder? They look longer than mine.

Looked it up on the internet. Gave a month by month bar chart. It spiked (and I mean spiked) in January with December and February being shoulder months. Virtually nothing in other months. It may not have been a yearly average but for a particular year? I was surprised (it's about half of what we get) but then not the misty rain we get in winter, I suspect but more like the heavy rain they get elsewhere (see Calgary floods).

Yeah, it's totally original under there Hasbeen. Although the pictures don't show it well (vagaries of the Olympus digital camera), it's like brand new under there. I gave it a coating of waxoil anyways while everything was out. I replaced the rubber straps (don't show up well here) and stripped and black POR-15'd the outside of tank when out to POR-15 sealer the inside. The metal straps are original. The camera shows the dust embedded in surface as a rusty hue but you don't see it that way when viewing with naked eye. Working on second hundred thousand miles. Doesn't see much rain any more. If you can't drive with top down I usually take another car.

When I talked to previous owner (1985-2006) two years ago in Sacramento, she said she only did regular servicing and it only let her down once when it lost power and had to get it towed back to garage to get it fixed.

You're right Don, checked again and the page I was looking at a few years ago must have been all wet (pun intended). Average rainfall is closer to 18", more in keeping with what I had in my minds eye.
