Several Problems Solved
Posted: 06 Jun 2013 10:57
Over the pat view months I have been raising several queries relating to my original 8. They now all seemed to be solved & some of the solutions are also relevant to 7s' & 7 V8s'.
So I will relate them separately and a big thank you to those of you who assisted.
]1. Strange Temp reading May 20th.
All relays ok,radiator Ok, Temp gauge ok, sender units ok, hoses ok & no it wasn't an incorrect water pump. The problem was the thermostat that while it opened at the correct temperature it did not open fully. A new one was tested before being installed & all OK. This was the third NEW thermostat, the first being put in when fitting the new water pump & the second some time later. So take heed all that is new is not necessarily good.
2. Radio May 24
The ongoing debate about radio's is that they stick because they are too long. This is only one part of the problem the other is that the face is too wide to fit between the pillars between the radio hole & the heater controls. I have entered the technical age & fitted a Sony DSX-A30, No Cd or cassette but MP3. Oh yes & I also replaced the old aerial with a new powered one.
3.Castor angle May 28
Thanks for the tip of fiddling with the ARB all is now fixed.
4. Relays for fans.
Those with 8's will know of how these are attached to the bulkead behind the left front headlight. Well mine were a mess with broken connectors. New one supplied by Holden Vintage & Clasic in the UK have done the trick.
5. Front Indicator lIghts May 31st.
This was not my query, but while in the UK recently I managed to get the correct bulbs & bulb holders for my 8s' cruise lights resulting in them now working. I then had an idea & rewired the front ones to work with the indicators & what a great result.
6. Boot Light.
I never had a boot light & so bought those for the 7. Suprise the holes in the boot lid cross brace where the go are much larger on the 8 than on the 7. So what now ? Answer a TR3A front side light mounted in the boot & wired up to the boot on off switch & I now have a boot light.
7. Footwell courtesy lights
Since I got my 8 ten years ago I have always known of a light in the drivers footwell, mounted behind the Knee pad shroud & operated by a switch under the dashboard, great for working under the dash. However not long ago I came into the garage one night & opened the drivers door only to see this light come on. With the dash switch at on the light is activated by a second switch in the doors A pillar. This caused me to look on the passenger side to find the fitting & no bulb. Fit new bulb & I now have courtesy lights in both footwells. Was this standard I wonder.
So alls well that ends well.
