radio

Postby Sautie » 24 May 2013 13:51

Sometime last year someone recommended a PYLE - PRC20U as fitting into the dash flush & without protruding. This was because it had less depth than today's radios. I now have one & yes it has about 25mm less depth. However it still doesn't go in flush because it would seem to be too thick & connects with the bottom of the heater matrix. Has any one any ideas/solutions. Maybe a rubber hammer.[8)]

I recommended the Pyle PLR34M to you which is only 12cm deep; whereas the PLRC20U that you purchased is nearly 14 cm deep, enough to cause it to stick out by nearly that difference I suspect. From what I see on Pyle's website this unit has a tape player, which is why this unit is likely a little longer than some of their other head units without a tape player.

If you can live without the tape player, I would return the unit in favor of one without. The PLR34M has both an aux. input as well as USB and SD slots.

I had a Pyle in mine also, until I found an original radio/cassette. The model I used was PLMR86. It fit like a glove and the lighting on it matched the existing green. No cassette, no cd, both of which are pretty much useless these days. It has an 8mm input and will also accept an SD card as well as a thumb drive.

In the middle pic it's not snugged all the way in, this was a test fit. You've really got to make sure all the wires are pulled to either side of the unit, and not bunched up behind it.

This is the one to get for that retro look. Might even fool a classic plate inspector if they don't notice the sd and usb slots.

Don't think we'd get anything like that at that price in Rip Off Britain! supercass

Well yes, then I would guess £15 approx import charges and VAT at 20% plus a £12 fee for taking your money from you! Would the band coverage be the same as in the U.K? supercass

That would be a rip off. I don't see charges being that high. I gives all amounts except VAT (figure £1 = $1.50 approx.). Where do you get £12 for using Paypal? I know it's slightly different in UK but we're not charged anything here in N/A.

The AM/FM band is marked on radio so should be easy to see if it's the same.

£12 is the fee to collect the VAT. Believe they waive (the VAT) if it it is below a certain amount. (?£9) but they tend to apply it to total costs so this is likely to be vatable. Perhaps I'm just cynical but I find that when I order goods outside the EEC there is usually a sting in the tail! supercass

I've got a Kenwood of the same sort in mine, Aux/USB only so its short enough to fit. But I need to make a brace system for the back so it doesn't sit an an angle. As was said Make sure your wired aren't bunching up behind the receiver, That takes up a good 20mm.

Sounds like a tax on a tax. Yup, definitely a rip off.
